"Be yourself"

This quotation is one of the most popular that we may have heard many times. On one hand it seems and sounds perfectly alright. However, on the other hand, it is a bit deceiving.

As it all depends on what kind of person we are. For instance, if someone is full of anger, to such a person, we can’t simply say “Oh, that is your nature, just be yourself.” Personally, I believe it is much more than just being yourself, it most probably refers to one’s self-awareness, which is free from all forms of defects and faults.
